Stephen Harkess and Robert Salter established the law firm of Harkess & Salter, LLC, in 2007. Read on to learn more about them.
Attorney Stephen Harkess grew up in Colorado and has practiced law here for more than a dozen years. He attended public schools in Lakewood, earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Colorado and a law degree from the University of Denver. In addition to his career as an attorney, he has worked as an accountant and a real estate broker.
After law school, he clerked for a district court judge before leaving to practice law as a trial attorney. In subsequent years, he has represented clients at every level of the state and federal courts in Colorado, including jury trials involving disputes over as little as $2 and as much as several million dollars. He has also worked for one of the largest foreclosure law firms in Colorado.
Presently, Stephen's practice is primarily focused on family law and in providing financial relief to individuals and families through consumer bankruptcy. In 2012, he was honored by his peers by being listed in Colorado Super Lawyers — Rising Stars.
Robert has served clients in Colorado for more than six years. After graduating from the University of Florida with a bachelor of arts degree in criminology and law, Rob moved to Colorado to enjoy the skiing, biking, and outdoor activities that the Rocky Mountains offer. In 1995, he began working as a counselor for dependent and neglected children at a residential treatment facility in Denver. Feeling as though he could do more to work within the legal system to improve the lives of children, Rob began studying law at the University of Denver. During his studies, he worked as a guardian ad litem (GAL) supervised by the Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center. As a GAL, he worked to serve and protect the rights of dependent and neglected children. Rob earned his law degree and was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2005. His professional affiliations include the Denver Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association.
As a family lawyer, Robert has helped clients with divorces, allocation of parental responsibilities (custody issues for unmarried parents), modifications of court orders, adoptions and grandparent visitation. He also handles wills, trusts and estate planning.
